Orphanage Volunteer Tutoring PDF Print E-mail
Midrand - South Africa

ButtonApplyNow.jpg sElyceTeachingVolunteer at small and intimate orphanage in Midrand, South Africa, whose goal it is to improve the education levels of its orphans aged 8 to 18 years of age. .

You don't need to be a teacher to volunteer and give these orphaned children the most valuable gift of education - thereby ensuring a better future and breaking the cycle of poverty & abuse of the past. Primary and secondary school tutoring and teaching assistance is greatly needed.

We need volunteers who have a desire to assist children with their learning / homework, computer work and clear stumbling blocks in a range of subjects. You will volunteer in a small orphanage that has an intimate and homely, not institutional, feel to it.

It may be the relationship that you have formed with a particular child that could result in the "breakthrough" rather than previous teaching experience, although it may be an advantage in some cases.

Our partner orphanage has made education one of their priority goals for their children and your volunteer contribution could help them achieve it!

The home was established as a Section 21 Company, or non-profit organisation in 2002 and was awarded a Certificate for Recognition for services rendered to the city by the Mayor in 2004. The orphanage focuses on the safe housing of children. Achieved by targeting their resources to the welfare of children placed in their care and protecting them from secondary abuse.

The number of children abused, abandoned and orphaned annually in South Africa is staggering. Of the children at our partner Home, 72% are orphans, some of whom spent years as "street children" before coming to them. 36% of their children were sexually and physically abused and 27% were displaced by war.

By aligning themselves with the Police and Social Development, they are able to meet the needs of children in crisis in our community. Children receive trauma debriefing, counselling, group therapy and court preparation and all medical treatment required.

Gary Bailey - former Manchester United FC goalkeeper for 10 years - is the orphanage's Patron.

You will volunteer in Midrand, South Africa - a fast growing "city" in its own right situated halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria.
